AWARENESS AT BAUWWA BEEL

Bauwwa Beel is a small IBA supports more than 90 species of birds (choudhury 2000) with four globally threatened bird species. During my recent survey 38 species of bird are seen with a large no. Lesser Whistling Duck (a thousand plus) and frequent occurrence of Lesser Adjutant Stork reflects its potential to become a good birding spot in Assam.

Presently the beel is in threat by land reclamation, siltation, flood and hunting.
So a small awareness talk was done by me, resulting in some decline in hunting, I talkes to young boys to look and report me whenevre they see hunting; they now even stop people from hunting.
